Primal Reflex Release Technique™ (PRRT™):
PRRT or Primal Reflex Release Technique is a maneuver which uses reflexes for resetting or reprogramming the nervous system. Since the nerves tell all the other structures of the body what to do, how to tense or relax, PRRT causes a global change that instantly relieves pain. The technique was created by John Iams, PT.
New Service Being Offered:
Therapeutic Massage
Complementary Care services offer holistic benefits that complement or enhance the health care received from the physical therapist. The services are used to treat and prevent illness, aid recovery, promote health, manage pain, and reduce stress. Massage is often used for specific reasons, such as relief from pain, stress reduction, or enhancement of athletic performance, or to increase the general health and well-being of the recipient.
Craniosacral Therapy:
(CST) A gentle, light touch method of evaluating and enhancing the function of the CRANIOSACRAL system. The CRANIOSACRAL system is the "housing" of the brain and spinal cord. This manual therapy technique encourages the body's natural healing mechanisms. Craniosacral Therapy treatments dissipate the negative effects of stress, disease, and injuries. The craniosacral system consists of the membranes and cerebrospinal fluid that surround and protect the brain and spinal cord. It extends from the bones of the skull, face and mouth, down the spine to the sacrum and tail bone. An imbalance or restriction in the craniosacral system may cause sensory, motor or neurological impairments. These problems may include chronic pain, scoliosis, migraines, motor-coordination impairments or learning disabilities.
Myofascial Release:
(MFR) A whole body hands-on approach to evaluate and treat the muscle and connective soft tissues of the body. Restrictions in these tissues can lead to postural misalignments and abnormal tensions that cause a lack of mobility and pain. Using specific positioning and/or intelligently placed gentle pressures, a release of these abnormal tensions, as well as restrictions will be experienced. This leads to improved postural alignment and increased mobility with little or no pain. Myofascial release is not only helpful for chronic pain sufferers, but also for athletes. This technique will enhance their performance by allowing more freedom and fluidity of movement.
Joint Mobilizations:
(Jt Mob) This technique consists of gently moving one joint surface on another in a specific joint. Mild stretching of the joint capsule & loosening of any adhesions is accomplished. This is done with gentle oscillating pressures or muscle contractions. The result of this treatment is decreased pain & increased range of motion.
Visceral Manipulation:
(VM) The viscera includes all the body's organs, and their interconnecting tissues and ligaments. VM is a gentle manual therapy technique using light, specifically placed pressure. This will encourage normal mobility, tone, and inherent tissue motion of the viscera and their surrounding connective tissues and ligaments. Excessive tightness, displacement and adhesions can cause organs to work against each other and the body's muscular, bony, and connective tissues. These disturbances can create chronic irritation and fixed, abnormal points of tension. This can lead to subtle organ dysfunctions and/or musculoskeletal pain and problems. VM is especially helpful after abdominal or thoracic surgery, after pregnancy or after a lung or abdominal infection, (i.e. bladder infection leading to stress incontinence) .
Manual Traction:
(M-Tx) An intelligently applied longitudinal force applied to a joint or body part to decompress this area. Manual traction is better than mechanical traction because the patient's tissue response is constantly monitored. Just the right amount of force at the most effective angle can be applied. This technique is very helpful with spinal pain, disc problems, & stiff joints. Osteoarthritis sufferers benefit greatly from manual traction.
Therapeutic Exercise:
(T-Ex) These are individually designed exercise for the patient's specific problem. These are pain relieving exercises not the usual exercise approach of "no pain, no gain." Therapeutic exercises are intended to give the patient control over pain symptoms & allow the individual to do more activity with less pain.
Strain & Counterstrain:
(SCS) A gentle indirect manual therapy technique that enhances the biomechanics of the spine & extremity joints by eliminating tight muscle spasms. This will restore pain free movement. The therapist will passively place the patient's muscle or joint into a position of "ease or slack" that allows the muscle to relax or unwind (i.e. getting a "kink" out of a gold chain . . . stretching will only make it tighter). Strain & Counterstrain will give immediate relief to muscle spasms and relax even chronically "tight" muscles. Have you been stretching your hamstrings forever with no relief? Counterstrain can help you.
Muscle Energy Technique:
(MET) A direct, non-invasive manual therapy technique used to normalize joint position and increase range of motion. The therapist puts a joint into a precise position, then the patient performs a gentle muscle contraction that helps correct the dysfunctional interaction between nerves, muscles, & joints. |
